Baller on a Budget:
How to Impress Your Date
Without Breaking the Bank

After months of scoping little miss hot stuff from afar, you finally managed to work up the nerve to ask her out.  This is the girl you’ve been waiting for and you know with a girl like this you may only get one chance. You’ve been plotting and planning the perfect place and the perfect things to say to make sure she stays yours. The problem is you’re supposed to take her out tomorrow but until pay day next week you’re broke. What’s a guy to do?

I know I look to get taken out for lobster, followed by a night in bottle service just as much as the next girl, but admittedly some of my best dates cost next to nothing.  A date doesn’t have to be super expensive to be super special.  Here are some tips from us girls at MNF on having a memorable date without going broke to do it.

Kendra Nguyen

The best date I’ve ever been on that wasn’t too expensive was when a guy flew me out to New York. We ate at a super nice restaurant, drinking pink champagne. Afterwards, we went to a few bars and the night ended with me passing out in the cab ride back. The next day we woke up and went shopping… wait I guess that was kind of expensive.

If you have a hot tub or a swimming pool then invite that special girl over for a swim date! Night swimming is more romantic so pick a later time. My favorite dates have been late night swimming or chillin’ in a hot tub. A few nights, my date and I watched for shooting stars, while sitting in the pool and hot tub. It was really cute. And of course, having your girl in a bikini is major eye candy for you! Another one of my favorite dates is a little outdoor campfire just for two.  These ideas are simple but always fun and no one has to spend any money.

The Walker Art Center is a great place to take a date. It’s even free every Thursday night. Going in the summer is especially fun because of the outdoor sculpture garden. It’s the perfect place to walk around and chat or just relax. Don’t forget to bring your camera. Even if you do only end up with a few random and silly pictures it’s still fun to look back on the time you and your date spent together.

Broke?  Don’t wanna break the bank?  Or just a penny pincher?  Either way, you don’t want to spend a lot of money without looking like a cheap ass!  Ditch the typical dinner and a movie and opt for recreational sports.  They’re fun, challenging and interactive.  Whether it’s bowling or billiards, you can not go wrong.  It’s the perfect spot for a first date with average rates starting at $5.00 an hour per person, and if you’re hungry, get your grub on and check out the menu!  On average, prices for food cost about $2.99 to $17.99.  If it’s your honey’s first time playing, show her how to hold the cue!  Now’s your opportunity to get close without being too forward, and she won’t even think you’re creepy.  Bored with pool?  Most of the time pool halls have a video arcade and darts.  Challenge your lady and show her your skills!  More of a bowler?  Take your date out for some late night, all you can bowl fun and strike out on your first engagement!!!  Rates start at $10.00 per person with shoe rentals that start at $2.00.  Hungry?  Menus at the bowling alleys are pretty similar in prices to the ones at the pool hall.  Both places give you a chance to talk and get to know one another with a little fun and games on the side. So kick back, knock down some pins, or hit some balls on the green.  Show your lady a good time, and don’t bore her!

Summer is soon to come and Minnesota is known for it’s incredible lakes! I would love for guy to pick me up on a warm summer night and take me for a long walk around the lake! It gives us to time to talk to each other and it’s great exercise. Rent a canoe or paddleboat if you don’t want to walk! Don’t for get the peanut butter & jelly sandwiches!

Of course every woman wants to be swept off her feet via a trip to Paris, Dom
Perignon and cavier, but not everyone is going to be able to afford that. The
best dates I’ve been on are the ones that are the most simple and heartfelt.
Examples are a walk around the lake on a nice summer day, a simple picnic of
shrimp, strawberries and Asti Moscato or even a night laying on a blanket
outside looking at the stars talking about everything and anything.
Be creative and have a ton of fun!
That is the main goal and with those two basics in mind, you’ll be sure to
impress any gal who is open to finding our more about you. Complicated &
elaborately planned dates will not always work but rather you would be surprise
how much a simple date can leave an impression on that special someone you’re
interested in!
